I’m PREGNANT!!! If you’ve stumbled upon this post, I assume that you’re a first-time mom like myself. Congratulations! I recently shared my pregnancy announcement on my Instagram and am ecstatic. The last six months have been nothing short of amazing and if that hasn’t been the case for you, better days are ahead! In this post, I’m sharing maternity must-haves that have made my life so much easier.
I’d be lying if I said my first trimester was a rocky one. I didn’t get all the tell-tale signs nor did I experience the notorious first-trimester pregnancy symptoms. I did however have my fair share of body aches and pains, insane fatigue, along with crazy food aversions.
Here are the maternity must-haves that will love right through to the end of your pregnancy!
Tried and True Maternity Must-Haves
1. The Ultimate Pregnancy Pillow
Say hello to the best sleep (given the circumstances) that you’ll have while you’re pregnant. This pregnancy pillow has been a favourite of mine since I was around 9 or 10 weeks. I’m sure you can relate to the discomfort and struggle of finding the perfect sleeping position.
The “C” shape is perfect for getting extra cushioning between your legs and lower back. The positions are endless! I use mine to sleep, lie in bed, work on my laptop, read, and even prop up my snacks. You’ll also love that the jersey cover is removable and machine washable!
2. Prenatal Vitamins
My doctor recommended these prenatal vitamins and I’ve had a good experience with them thus far. I’ve read about a range of prenatal vitamins that trigger nausea – even if they’re taken with a meal. If you’ve been having trouble stomaching your current vitamins and are looking to make a switch, look into these!
3. Itchy Skin Relief and Preventing Stretch Marks
I was a bit bummed when I learned that there is no sure way of preventing stretch marks in pregnancy. Genetics play a major role in whether you’ll get them so chances are your mother’s experience might be a good indicator. Nonetheless, it doesn’t hurt to keep that skin supple and moisturized. As you might already know dry and itchy skin is a first-class ticket to stretch mark city and we don’t want that.
My favourite moisturizing duo is a combination of this oil and this cocoa butter lotion. These two products lathered together make for a soothing belly rub (an awesome way to get your partner involved!). I moisturize with this combo twice a day and it leaves my skin feeling so nourished. Don’t neglect your chest, hips and thighs as they’re getting their fair share of stretching too!
4. Maternity Leggings and Biker Shorts
Stretchy clothes are your best friend and I doubt that you’ll find a mom-to-be that says otherwise. Before your growing tummy becomes visible, your waistband will give out. You’ll soon get tired of letting go of one button at a time until you resort to keeping your pants closed with a hair tie. Been there. It’s crafty but so not fun.
Full-on maternity bottoms might not fit you in the early months but these maternity biker shorts have just the right amount of tummy room. You’ll certainly grow with them and will continue to reach for them as you embark on your postpartum journey.
5. Oversized T-Shirts and Button-Down Shirts
The first few months of pregnancy are extremely awkward when it comes to body changes. You might not be ready to announce your exciting news just yet, especially in the early weeks and months. The quick solution? Since the oversized look is always chic, nobody will bat an eyelash if you decide to go up a size.
My closet has since been stocked with button-down poplin shirts which are great for wearing to the office. These also transition well after hours with jeans, shorts, skirts, etc. I love doing the one-sided tuck with jeans. Amazon Essentials also has a variety of patterns and colours for a great price.
6. Under Wire-free Bras
As everything grows, stretches and aches, the last thing you need is uncomfortable underwear. I quickly ditched all my bras with underwires and transitioned to the world of comfort and peace. I’m a big fan of this style of bra that still gives support and lift (if needed) without irritating achy boobs.
7. Comfy Slip-On Shoes
Does this one even need much explanation? Sore and puffy, especially in the warmer months are not fun. Give the cute sandals a break if they no longer bring you comfort. My tried and true sandals are a pair similar to these rubber ones. The comfort is unmatched and they are only $10!
